Affirmation Does Work, But How???

Through affirmations you can manifest your desire. It can bring positive and permanent change in your life. It can enable you to achieve the life you have always wanted for yourself like a life filled with abundance, filled with happiness, filled with love.

Affirmations can bring you wealth. All this will happen if you are willing to change your way of thinking, to make an effort to reprogram your mind by removing your old negative beliefs and replacing it with new positive and skillful thoughts.

Affirmation is a statement asserting the truth or a confirmation of something established about yourself. It is a solemn declaration of a positive truth about your self. It is said with conviction. Conviction comes with strong emotions. To make an effective affirmation, it should be bundled with strong emotions.

Affirmation can be your expression of positive thoughts about your dream or goal or can be your negative thoughts. Positive is constructive, negative is destructive. They are self-explanatory. But there is a common mistake that people who use affirmation commit. We have to be very careful with our statements, so that it would work for us and not against us. Affirmation can be stated negatively even if the intention is to say a positive statement. And this mistake is done when we use the wrong choice of words or we pick up a negative noun or action verb. Negative words are strong words and always powerful. For example, you may make a statement like this- I am enjoying a wonderful relationship with a man/woman “who is not boring…”. Say this with conviction and I can assure you, you will surely do your best with strong conviction to enjoy a boring relationship with your “best pick” in the very near future. Be careful not to include negative words or phrase in your affirmation if you do not want to find yourself unhappy with the results. Our subconscious mind picks up every word that we say as it is without validating it with our conscious mind. It picks up the most strong word/s or phrase/s first. So, if we say our well meaning and supposedly positive affirmation as frequently as we can but wrongly or negatively stated, then you should know what to expect by now.

Think about your positive words or phrases carefully to avoid making mistakes and suffering the consequences in the future just because of carelessness in the use of appropriate words and phrases.

What negative affirmation can bring us?

Our subconscious mind immediately believes every negative word that we say about our self because it validates strongly our internal belief about our being. It adds up to our stockpile of limiting beliefs about our self. As stated, affirmation is effective with strong emotions. Unfortunately, negative words or phrases always come in package that is full of negative emotions.

Negative affirmation adversely affects us in the way we think, react and in the way we feel. Consequently, we become irritable, we lose our self-esteem and self-confidence, we lose our inner drive, our enthusiasm, we become lazy, stressed out, annoying.
What positive statements can make us as a person?

Positive begets positive. It counters the effect of the negative statements or words that other people, including yourself, have mentioned about you. Positive affirmations program your subconscious mind through a more positive manner which makes us jolly, enthusiastic, energetic, self-confident. It positively affects our emotional, mental, spiritual and physical well being. It manifests in our capability, talent and skills.

How do we make use of positive affirmation? Here are a few examples of how you can use it in your life to effect positive changes.

To counter negative Self Talk

One of the fatal negative energy that can really harm our life is our habit of negative self-talk. We use positive affirmation to counter this bad habit. Negative self-talk can erode our self-worth. We perceived our self with many negative qualities and we use that perception in our inner dialogue when we think. We think a lot of negative thoughts about our physique, our level of intelligence, our education, our weaknesses, our achievements, our relationship, the kind of life that we have, etc. And the more we talk bad about our self the more that we believe that they are true and they really exist in us and that they are us. This negative realization limits our potential for success and increases our stress level.

We develop our self-worth from childhood whether internally or externally. We had those choices in our subconscious mind. The sad thing is, most of us had been bombarded with a lot of negative thoughts and negative words from people who either loved us (like our parents, older siblings and teachers, but unintentionally made mistakes in criticizing us destructively or uttering negative words and phrases about us without them realizing that we might suffer the consequences in the end), or from people with vested interest or twisted personal agenda.
Using positive affirmations we can reprogram our internal negative perceptions about our self. Positive results may not happen overtime as you have been holding this limiting belief in your mind and heart for a very long time, but it can help you in time for as long you allow the magic of affirmation to work for you. I mean, it is our own decision, our own choice whether or not we will let positive changes to manifest in our life as Eleanor Roosevelt says,

“Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

Today, some of us may have been successful in trying to defend themselves against the effect of negative criticisms by others but may have forgotten that sometimes, the person who has been successful in eroding our self-worth is us. That us attacks our person through internal dialogue.

To lose weight

You have tried everything you can to be able to lose weight. You have bought all the exercise equipments and follow the steps provided by the manufacturers so you could lose weight. After sometime you are planning to give up or perhaps you have given up already, because nothing really changes. You still have the same look. Perhaps you were able to lose some pounds but in a matter of days after being absent in the gym for a few days or eating fatty or sweet foods that you’re not suppose to eat but you really love to eat brought back the lost pounds with interest.
We are doing all these exercises and dieting because we are “FAT” or we are gaining “WEIGHT” no matter what we do!
You may not have realized until this point that the reason you bought those equipments or spend more time in the gym or follow your diet strictly is because you believe that those are the perfect programs for the “FAT” person like you. Even if you tell me now that the reason you are doing all these is because you want to remove those excess fat and to start getting healthy again, it will not work for you unless you start believing that you have a slender, sexy body. Remove that “FAT” word from your vocabulary and begin to tell yourself that the reason you go to the gym or bought those equipments or following your diet strictly is because you posses a slender, sexy body.

Your subconscious mind associates the word “FAT” with your current belief about yourself and will continue to link it up with your physique unless you change this belief. That’s how it works. This may be your newly discovered knowledge. Apply this wisdom without fail and you will surely manifest your desire to be slim and sexy.

You can try some technique like putting the phrase “I am slender” on the upper corner of your mirror, so that you could constantly remind yourself that you are slender every time you see yourself in the mirror. I am sure you have read or heard about this affirmation technique from someone or somewhere else.
But before you do that, do this very simple but very effective technique first to convince yourself that you already have a slender body. At night before you sleep, go in front of the mirror and look at your eyes straight. Do not glance at your stout feature not even once. You may not be able to control your eyes as this is your first time to do this. If it wanders, just be patient with yourself and try your best to put your sight back on track. Achieve a relax mode by controlling your breathing until you are breathing slowly and deeply while staring at your eyes through the mirror. You will feel it when you are ready to talk to yourself. Once you are ready, begin talking to yourself through your eyes. Tell “you” that you are actually slim and sexy and that you are very happy about this feature of yours. And because you are very happy about it, you will continue to be like it. You will always be slim and sexy regardless of the kind of food that you eat because all kinds of food contribute to your being healthy and sexy. Then close your eyes, and thank yourself for maintaining your ideal weight. Turn around without opening your eyes yet. Open your eyes once your back is facing the mirror. Then go straight to your bed and go to sleep right away. Day and night, continue to believe by visualizing that you are slim and sexy and will continue to be. Visualization will reaffirm your belief about your new slender look.

To stop smoking habit

I used a powerful positive affirmation to stop my addiction to cigarette. I used to smoke and started smoking when I was between 16 to 17 years old. I was a heavy smoker. In the back of my mind I was so convinced that without puffing a cigarette I would not be able to think as it could effectively stimulate my creativity, I could not sleep at night without a few session with my pack of cigarette, I could not read without it, I would lose my self-confidence without it, I would not be able to discuss my topic eloquently without it, etc. My world is my favorite cigarette and I thought I could not live outside my world.

The time came when I realized I had to stop smoking already as I was not getting any younger anymore. But no matter how hard I tried to get rid of it, I would always fail. For two to three years I had been battling it out. Until one day I discovered a new wisdom in my Manifesting Desire Process that could help me stop it. Part of this is affirmation technique which is exactly the same as the one I discussed earlier in order to lose weight. It was so effective that it didn’t take me a long time to stop it. It was abrupt that I couldn’t believe it myself. It was really incredible. It has been so nice to be free once again.

You can apply affirmation to almost every area of your life that needs to have positive changes. Use it to build your self confidence and self-esteem, to forgive and relieve your anger, to reduce stress or get out of depression, to battle fear or negative emotions, to get out of debt, to achieve financial freedom, to do better in school, to advance in your career, to find your ideal mate, etc.

Affirmation can change our lives positively or negatively. We should know how to use it and use it carefully. Saying positive statements to our selves as often as we can every day is like injecting this truth into the nerves of our subconscious mind so that it will have no other choice but to make that affirmations happen in our own individual life. It happens automatically. Do not worry about how the positive events of changes will unfold because our subconscious mind and the Universe have their own magical way of putting everything together and work in perfect harmony (like a harmonic orchestra) with the Law Of Attraction.
After reading and learning from the above information, now what?
You have to take this subject seriously if you want to bring positive changes to your life. Make a list of your desires that you want manifested in your life. Order them according to priorities and begin to work on each item one by one by writing your own affirmation for each of the item listed. You can even make a grouping for the items that you think are interconnected with each other, so that you can effectively compose the most appropriate affirmation for each group. This can save you a lot of time. Be wise or street smart enough to plan things out, so that you can be more efficient in doing your own affirmations.

After all is set and done, its now time for you to make a schedule for each affirmation. There is no right or wrong in the timing and duration of stating your affirmation. Each affirmation can run for 3 weeks to a month or even more but it could also be below 3 weeks. It all depends on your mental capacity and energy. Just make sure you don’t overwhelm yourself mentally. Do not rush this process, do it gently and carefully, working on each item on your list.

Stating our affirmation is a form of saying a very powerful prayer. Powerful in the sense that you are claiming and declaring that what you have been wanting to have in your life have already happened. It is also a statement of strong expectant faith, believing that you have already received what you have asked for from God.

How to write your positive affirmation?

Consider the following parameters when composing your own positive affirmation:

Short, direct and in the present tense. Your positive statement should be easy to understand and as concise as possible and should be in the present tense. Do not write a very long statement which is complicated. Make it direct and short. Say “I am strong and healthy” rather than “I will be strong and healthy”.

The Law of attraction and our subconscious mind always follow what we say without questioning and bring to us what we desire to manifest accordingly. The use of future tense in your positive affirmation will mean that you want to see that happening in the future and not in the NOW. Do not use future tense as it suggests “waiting” and you probably already know what I am trying to say here. It could be stated in a short sentence or in a phrase form. Depending on your goal but it could also be a one word affirmation statement. For example, the word “peace” could suggest that all you need to have is tranquillity or peace of mind.
Include only positive words. Our subconscious mind will detect and listen to negative words more than the positive ones. Why? As stated before, negative words are often packaged with strong negative emotions. Emotion is one factor that can make it easy for the conscious mind to convince the subconscious mind.
Say it in your own language. You don’t have to be a poet if you are not, to write a powerful and effective affirmation. The rule of thumb is- you should be able to express it in a way that you can understand and appreciate it. The reason why I mention this is because I came across some writings about affirmation using old English and complicated statements that only the author could perfectly appreciate it. Do not copy them just in case you find the same or similar writings. Write your own.

When to use affirmations?

You may have known this already but it’s worth mentioning here. Recite your affirmation before you retire at night, upon waking up or before you get off your bed, during the day you should keep this playing in your mind and read it several times to yourself as much as possible during the day. You must find the time to pause for a while and read it.

To keep myself reminded, I use my cell phone’s alarm function to pre-schedule my affirmation tasks so I won’t miss doing them during the day. It works for me, so it must work for you, too.
